March 20 marks the first day of spring. And that means the days are brighter, and longer, which gives you more time to get out and explore your city. Here are the top spring events happening around Houston.

 

Bayou City Arts Festival

When: March 24-26
Where: 6501 ½ Memorial Drive

Happening at Memorial Park, the Bayou City Arts Festival will feature local and regional artists as well as their work on display, which ranges from photography and prints to jewelry and sculpture. Hungry guests can stop by the food vendors and food carts. And there will be plenty of entertainment and performances throughout the multi-day event. Tickets range from $3 to $30.  

 

Shop the Hong Kong City Market

When: Year-Round
Where: 11205 Bellaire Blvd

Checkout the Hong Kong City Market this spring to try something new from one of its 20 different restaurants and cafes. There is no shortage of bubble tea, gift shops and toy stores, but frequent visitors make it a point to visit the the grocer, Hong Kong Food Market to pick up an assortment of odd produce and fresh seafood.

 

The Rink: Rolling at Discovery Green

When: March 3-25
Where: Discovery Green

There’s only a few days left to get your skate on at Houston’s first outdoor roller skating rink at Discovery Green. The rink is open throughout the week and late on weekends. Skate tickets can be purchased at the rink for $12 per person.

 

Houston Whatever Fest

When: April 1-2
Where: 810 Saint Emmanuel St 

Music, comedy and art collide at Houston’s Whatever Fest. Dozens of bands will take the stage including AWOLNATION, Asher Roth and The Soul Rebels. A long list of comedians will also be present, including “Silicon Valley” star T.J. Miller. Tickets can be purchased on the Eventbrite website.

 

Katy Sip n Stroll

When: April 1
Where: 22756 Westheimer Pkwy

Try something delicious at Katy Sip n Stroll. The culinary event will feature a wide food selection as well as craft beer and wines for sampling. There will also be a silent auction, benefiting the Ballard House. Tickets, which range from $15 to $65, can be purchased online.

 

Menu of Menus

When: April 4
Where: 2000 Edwards St

Celebrate the 15th annual Houston Press Menu of Menus Extravaganza at Silver Street Station on April 4. With 40 area restaurants participating in the foodie event, there will be no shortage of food for hungry guests to enjoy. Guests can expect to cooking competitions, live music and more. Art Car Parade

When: April 8
Where: Downtown Houston, along Smith St

The 30th annual Houston Art Car Parade is happening on April 8. This free event features over 250 creatively decorated vehicles, ranging from cars and trucks to unicycles and lawn mowers, from around the country and even Canada. The parade begins promptly at 2pm, so be sure to grab a seat early.

 

San Leon Oyster Festival

When: April 29
Where: 2700 Bayshore Park

Happening at San Leon’s Bayshore Park, the second annual San Leon Oyster Festival is promising to be bigger than ever before — that’s a lot of oysters. There will be oyster contests, cook-offs and all-you-can-eat-oysters from right here in the Texas Gulf Coast. Tickets range from $10 to $20 and can be purchased on the event website.

 

Houston Dragon Boat Festival

When: May 6
Where: 901 N York St

Houston’s Dragon Boat festival is coming back on May 6. This year there will be live music, lots of food and cultural performances from different local groups from around the region. The event is free and guests are encouraged to bring along family and friends.

 

Wet’n’Wild Splashtown

When: May 6
Where: 21300 Interstate 45 N, Spring TX

The weather is warming up, so cool down with the entire family at Wet’n’Wild Splashtown. May 6 marks the first day the water park is open for the season. For park hours and admission information visit the waterpark website.
