The City of Baytown is built on the Gulf Coast plain and is within the Houston metropolitan area. It is located at the mouth of the San Jacinto River, right on Galveston Bay which adds to it’s nautical feel. Baytown lies along the I-10 and State Highway 146 which makes commuting easy.

Baytown has a rich history beginning with the native tribes that first settled the land, the Texas Revolutionary War that would occur in the 1830’s and the eventual development of oilfields and oil production. The Baytown Historical Museum is a great place to visit to learn all about Baytown’s history and progress.

According to VisitBaytown.org: “Today, Baytown is largely a community centered on industry, including oil, rubber and chemical plants. Home to petrochemical giants, including ExxonMobil and Chevron, Baytown serves an international community through the Port of Houston and Houston Ship Channel which reach 1,053 ports worldwide.”

The Arts, Culture and Entertainment District (ACE Disctrict) in Downtown Baytown includes many venues, galleries, shops and historic sites. Spots in the ACE District include the Art Center of Baytown, the longest running restaurant in Baytown: Donnelley’s, the famous Trophy Barbershop and much more. Baytown has an small town feel with a unique history you can see in the streets.

Now that we’ve given you the backdrop of the Baytown area, let’s take a closer look at our property there, The Place at 2500 James.

The Place at 2500 James: Located in the Baytown neighborhood, the Place at 2500 James is a short drive into the heart of the city. Hop onto the freeway and get into the city for work or for fun. Baytown is a small community.

Who handles your utilities? CenterPoint Energy maintains all electrical infrastructure in Baytown but you can find a list of providers on PowertoChoose.org. CenterPoint Energy also maintains gas services; for hook up you can go online or call them at: 713-659-2111.

To turn on services like trash and water, you can file a form with The City of Baytown. They have next day service turn on as well as a list of prices on their site. We’re close to the city offices! If you need to take care of your water bill, you can drop checks off and visit the City of Baytown Utility Office which is only 3.8 miles from the property.

Baytown has three post offices:  One of the post offices (2219 N Alexander Dr Baytown TX 77520) is only  2.15 miles away (3 min drive).

Looking for medical care? Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital is 4.9 miles away from our property. Kindred Hospital is also close, as well as Baytown Urgent Care which is 3.7 miles away. UrgentCareMD’s urgent care center is also only 5.2 miles away.

Baytown has one DMV office: Located at 5420 Decker Drive Harris County Baytown, TX 77520, the DMV is a short distance away from The Place at 2500 James. It is 6.55 miles away (10 min drive).

What about schools? There are 15 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, 5 high schools and 3 alternative schools in Baytown. The Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District is the reigning school district in Baytown. The Place at 2500 James is also perfect for university students! We are only 3.6 miles (that’s only a 9 min drive) away from Lee College!

What are a few favorites? Cork Grinders Coffee & Wine Bar is a small, cozy coffee and wine bar that is serving up amazing appetizers during happy hour, live music and a great atmosphere. You have to try the cheese board and Yardbird pizza.

We also love Sav-Fer Da Flavor which is serving up to-die-for sea food and soul food. Low key and casual, this spot may not look like a culinary wonderland, but don’t let looks fool you. The chicken and sausage is a favorite, as well as the Oxtail (trust me – it’s awesome) and the boudain with red beans and rice. If you are looking for soul food, Sav-Fer Da Flavor is where you need to be.
