World’s Bar-B-Que Contest

Eat, and eat some more, at the World’s Bar-B-Que Contest, taking place at NRG Park. Over 250 teams will be competing for the championship title. Visitors can enjoy many of the public venues at the event including the Chuck Wagon, The Garden, and Rockin’ Bar-B-Que Saloon. The price of admission includes a bbq sandwich and chips, plus access to the grounds, live music, and the carnival. Admission for kids 12 and under is just $5 and adult admission is $15.

Celebrate Texas Independence Day throughout a two-day living history celebration at Washington on the Brazos, a 293-acre lush historic park area. Visitors will get to learn about the 59 delegates who met on March 2, 1836 to declare independence from Mexico. The event will feature traditional crafts, musket and cannon firing lines, food, music, living history presentations, including a bonafide 1936 army camp. Admission is free.
Houston Livestock and Rodeo Show
When: March 7-26

For more than 80 years the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Show has been wowing crowds, whether it be rodeos and carnival rides or food and live music, there is something for everyone at the 20-day-long series of events. The show began to improve the cattle industry along Texas’ Gulf Coast, now it is the world’s largest livestock show, and since its beginning, has donated $430 million to the youth of Texas. Azalea Trail
When: March 10-12
Where: 2503 Westheimer
One of Houston’s annual spring events is happening over the weekend of March 10 through 12 in River Oaks. Presented by River Oaks Garden Club, Azalea Trail gives visitors the chance to view spectacular gardens and private homes. The family-friendly garden tour costs $10 for single site admission, or $25 per person for six admissions.

Where: Buffalo Bayou, Downtown
Texas’ largest kayak and canoe race is happening this March, right here in Houston. The 45th Annual Buffalo Bayou Regatta welcomes paddlers ages 12 and up to take part in the 15-mile race along scenic Buffalo Bayou. The race is set to begin, rain or shine, at 9am, and it expected to finish between 11am and 2pm with festivities at Sesquicentennial Park.
