Where: 16101 Westheimer Parkway
This popular dog park is great for big dogs. Located on Houston’s West Side, Millie Bush Dog park boasts dog-friendly swimming pools, plenty of trees for shade on warm days and fenced in areas where off-leash dogs can run and play freely. There are also hiking trails and picnic areas to enjoy, plus a dog shower station that can be used by pet parents to rinse off dirty dogs.

A quick 15-minute drive from The Place at Green Trails, and recommended for dogs of all sizes, Bill Archer Bark Park features obstacle courses that are great for high-energy mutts. The park also includes a dog-friendly bone-shaped pool area for where pets can go to cool off or take a swim. With hoses in the pet shower areas, dog owners can clean up muddy paws after a day of play. There’s ample shade and seating areas for dog owners, too.

Named one of Houston’s Top 10 Dog Parks by Houston Press, Baytown Bark Park features a five acre off-leash area built just for dogs, with four acres designated just for big dogs and one acre for small pets. Designed with help from Baytown Kennel Club, the park includes multiple walking trails, drinking fountains, for both dogs and their owners, benches, plenty of shaded areas and agility equipment for pets.

With plenty of space for dogs to run, the two acre Johnny Steele Dog Park was built inside of Buffalo Bayou Park as part of its recent renovation. The park features separate areas, one for small dogs, and one for large breeds, each with its own dog pond area where pets can dip their paws or dive right into the water. Other spots for outdoor activities, like hiking and biking, can also be found nearby.
Where: 601 Maxey Road
Maxey Park, located in East Houston, was the second official dog park to be constructed in the city. It was first built in 2004 and remains one of the Houston’s most popular parks to date. With 12 to 13-acres of fenced space for dogs to exercise off leash, thirsty pups can drink from doggie water fountains between play. As for dog owners, there are benches and seating areas to enjoy while watching the dogs play.
