Some of the best things in life are free. The same applies to the best things to do at no cost in Baytown.

1. Sylvan Beach

Where: 400 N Bayshore Dr

Great for picnics, long walks and family days, Sylvan Beach is always free and it is a great alternative to Galveston’s crowded beaches. You don’t have to pay to experience the beach, but if you want to fish off of the docks there will be a fee.

2. Bay Breeze Wine Trail

Where: 12739 FM 2354

You don’t have to go to Northern California to explore a wine trail. There’s one right here in Baytown. The Bay Breeze Wine Trail, which explores three different tasting rooms, is free, but those wine tastings will cost you.

3. Family geocaching  

Where: Multiple locations

Start with an app and a map, a compass and take the entire family for an adventurous treasure hunt. There are multiple areas to “geocache” around the city. You can even try your hand at the official Baytown Geo Tour.

4. San Jacinto Museum of History

Where: 1 Monument Cir

Learn about Texas culture at the San Jacinto Museum of History. The museum contains artifacts and relics from Mexican Texas, the Texas revolution and the Republic of Texas as well as the early statehood days and even the Civil War.  Admission is always free.

5. Baytown Spray Parks

Where: Multiple locations

Cool off this summer at one of Baytown’s various Spray Parks. Great for kids, the Spray Parks are always free. The parks are open from 10am to 7pm on Saturdays.

6. Art Center of Baytown

Where: 110 W Texas Ave

Check out the Art Center, which is manned by the The Art League of Baytown, on Saturdays when admission is here. During this time you can browse local works of art created by local artists or shop for locally made goods.

7. Bark Park at Jenkins Park

Where: 4334 Crosby Cedar-Bayou Dr

Take Fido to the park, the Bark Park at Jenkins. There’s no cost to get in and the park boasts play areas, a skate park, baseball fields, picnic areas, disc golf areas and a basketball court in addition to the dog park.

8. Lynchburg Ferry

Where: 1001 S Lynchburg

Know as the oldest continuously running ferry in the state, this historic ferry is free to ride. Take a trip across the San Jacinto River and check out the San Jacinto Monument or Battleship of Texas.

9. Bayland Waterfront Park

Where: 2641 TX-146 BUS

This historic Baytown park is designated as a historical site. The park boasts picnic areas, fishing piers and docks and a .75-mile walking trail.

10. Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education and Recreation Center

Where: 1724 Market St

Free on Saturdays, the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education and Recreation Center is listed as an official site along the Great Texas Birding Trail. Here, visitors can explore the exhibit hall which features a range of live animals and hands-on experiences.
