Summer is almost here. And that means barbecue season is right around the corner. Here in Texas some might argue that it’s always barbecue season, so let’s get cooking!

Put your slow cooker to work to make this easy barbecue recipe. Start with three pounds of boneless chuck roast, 18-ounces of your favorite barbecue sauce and a few pantry staple seasons for added flavor. Novice cooks will like this recipe because it requires little effort, just prep and let your chuck roast cook in the slow cooker for nine hours.

2. Cheesy Portobello Burgers

Cooking for meatless Monday? Maybe you’re vegetarian or, perhaps you just want to switch things up on the grill. This recipe is for you. This easy recipe yields two servings and is a great substitute for regular grilled meat patties for summertime burgers. Use a grill, or if you don’t have one, your oven to make these mushroom burgers and top them off with tomatoes, lettuce, honey mustard and brioche buns to finish.

3. Pulled Pork Barbecue

Make a pulled pork barbecue sandwich like a Food Network Star. Really, you can. This recipe was created by Tyler Florence of the Food Network show “How to Boil Water.” The intermediate level recipe calls for five to seven pounds of pork shoulder roast, a long list of ingredients to make a dry rub as well as the fixings to make a cider vinegar-based homemade barbecue sauce. Tyler Florence isn’t the only television star with a good barbecue recipe. Bobby Flay has a solid Texas brisket recipe that he first debuted on his show “BBQ With Bobby Flay.” The recipe calls for six pounds of beef brisket and it great for cooks of all levels, as it’s rated “easy.”

5. Southern BBQ Chicken

Ready. Set. Marinate. This recipe requires that you let your chicken drumsticks marinate for eight hours overnight. Once the chicken is marinated you’ll whip up your own barbecue sauce and baste the drumsticks before throwing them on the grill.

6. Grilled Salmon with Spicy Korean Chile Pepper Sauce

This recipe takes just 30 minutes and is sure to impress your guests. If you’re opting for a lighter, but spicer, take on barbecue, this is the recipe for you. A one pound salmon filet is recommended but home cooks can also use any type of flaky fish, including cod or sable.
