There is no time for boredom in Baytown. Just a short distance from Downtown Houston and nearby the coastline, there’s no shortage of events, concerts, festivals and more. But you don’t have to travel to have fun. There’s plenty to do, right here at home. From wine tasting to fishing tours, here’s what is happening around Baytown this February and March.

Wine Tasting at Yepez Vineyard

Where: 12739 FM 2354

Located just over 8-miles east of The Place at 2500 James, Yepez Vineyard is the Baytown-area’s premier winery. Each Sunday guests can enjoy music on the patio from 4pm to 6pm. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets. Even leashed pets are welcome to join in on the fun. Visitors are welcome to bring snacks, just be advised, no outside alcohol is permitted. Wine lovers can imbibe in three complimentary tastings and wine by the glass starts at $5.

Spend the Day Outside

Where: 6213 Bayway Dr

The weather is beginning to warm up and here in Baytown, we’re starting to see signs of spring. Take advantage of the warmer temperatures and sunshine-filled days and opt to spend a day outdoors this month. And what better place to enjoy nature than at The Baytown Nature Center? Under a 20-minute drive from the MCLife Community The Place at 2500 James, Baytown Nature Center provides fun for the entire family. Guests can enjoy the butterfly garden, nature trails, bike paths, playground and more. There is even opportunities to cast a line and go fishing at the nature preserve. Adult admission is $4, senior and children fees are just $1.

Visit Baytown Historical Museum

Where: 220 West Defee

Described as a hidden gem, the historical living history museum features artifacts and remnants of Texas pioneer history. The Baytown Historical Museum is just short bike ride, about 10-minutes, or even walking distance, just under two miles, from The Place at 2500 James. The museum is open from Tuesday through Saturday from 10am until 2pm. Admission to the Baytown Historical Museum is free.

Take a Fishing Tour

Where: 4101 Tri City Beach Rd

Spend a day, or a weekend, out on a fishing boat with Bow to Stern Fishing Tours. The family-friendly operation will take you and your brood along the Texas coastline, teaching you fishing basics and helping you reel in your catch. Guide Captain David has more than 25-years of experience, so you can rest assured that you’re in good hands. Half day tours start at $350. Full day and weekend getaway tours are available. Bow to Stern also offers beginner and intermediate programs that cover basic fishing knowledge, how to tie knots, types of baits and other fishing skills, which range from $75 to $125.

Shop the Baytown Farmer’s Market

Where: 213 West Texas Ave

Happening on the third Saturday of each month and featuring local farmers, food trucks and cottage food, the Baytown Farmer’s Market held at the Baytown Town Square, which is just over a mile from The Place at 2500 James, celebrates all things local. Here, visitors can shop locally made jams, fresh produce and more at the open air market. Upcoming dates include February 18 and March 18. The farmer’s market is open from 8am to noon and is free to attend. Food and other items are available for purchase.

Head Off to the Races

Where: 2525 S FM 565 Rd

Zoom over to Baytown’s Royal Purple Raceway to take part in the high-octane excitement. No more than a 15-minute drive from The Place at 2500 James, Royal Purple Raceway is home to TX2K17, the ultimate street car event happening from March 16 to 19. The event draws in car enthusiasts and racers alike. There will be roll racing and drag racing taking place throughout the course of the multi-day event and no shortage of Corvettes, Ferraris and Lamborghinis. One day general admission is $18.
